Kintla Lake and Brown Pass
This post features a photo of the head of Bowman Lake. The Columbines are seen on the way to Brown Pass as well as the tree hit by a good sized rock. Plenty of shots of the waterfalls coming out of Hole-in-the-wall plus the snow covered hanging valley it comes from. Also, on a recent bike ride to Kintla Lake, which was beautifully calm for a change I took some photos of sticky geraniums, balsam root, paint brush, lupines and the north fork river.
The Inside Road from Polebridge to Fish Creek
here is one of the white Glacier Lilies that grow along the inside road.
.. great day for a ride down the inside road. Bring your sandals to get across the south fork of Logging Creek. After that the tree hopping starts, I stopped counting after 50- but nothing bad, no clusters, just a few tight squeezes. Saw several bull elk, a cinnamon colored black bear and a sand hill crane, all within the worst of the downfall, of course I was going slow enough not to miss anything.
hay – spruce – red meadow loop
the spruce creek cut over from hay creek road to red meadow road is finally snow free and dry enough for a good ride. there is still plenty of snow past the red meadow gate and it might be a while.. latest rumor I heard was that the great divide race might be rerouted around the flathead this year…
bowman lake road
Bowman Lake road is still covered with a rather solid layer of snow, ice or water once you get out of the burn into thicker timber. The inside road is open for cars to the end of Big Prairie, that’s also how far I rode it last week. To the south I made it about five miles before running into the same conditions as on the bowman lake road. I guess I’ll have to keep trying..
Out running this little glacier lily was brave enough to stick it’s head out and I hope there will plenty more to follow soon..
