The North Fork Hostel and the Pandemic

These are strange times calling for strange measures. I am still not quite sure how to deal with the new situation regarding the hostel. Here are my ideas so far and that is, of course, all depending on the situation and latest developments:

This year, 2020, the North Fork Hostel will probably reopen for the summer season on June 15 and close September 15. We will be open for reservations only. These reservations have to be made at least 3 days in advance. There will be no shared sleeping arrangements; if one party has booked into a dormitory it will essential become their private room. Shower and kitchen access will be limited, details still need to be worked out.

Everybody needs to insure to follow social distancing guidelines. Be also sure to follow all CDC and state recommendations and please wear a mask while in the common areas in the hostel.

Thanks and please contact Oliver with any questions or concerns.

  1. Oliver, this is Mark Carver. I manage The Cedar Tree Gift Shop in Apgar Village. I am Krista Carver’s dad (she was one of your first guests last summer at the Hostel. I have had several friends ask about the Hostel. I will pass along this blog to them. God bless you guys. Take care…I will stop by and see this summer when I am in Polebridge. -Mark

  2. Oliver, David Feiler and I saw you in late June, 2018. We biked over to Polebridge from the Lake McDonald visitor center. In the 1980’s I had stayed in the hostel several times when cycling from Missoula to Jasper, AB. I don’t plan to stay at the hostel this year.
Glad you are planning to open as safe as possible. I would suggest that you add an outdoor covered shelter and encourage people to socialize there rather than inside the common area. OUTDOORS IS SAFER THAN INDOORS. Recommend that people bring warm clothes incl hat to socialize outside. Also keep windows open to improve airflow. Supply blankets. Having an outdoor cooking area would be nice, or perhaps people can eat at Northern Lights Salon patio. The shower and bathroom will take some thought. An outdoor shower and sink would be best. Good luck! Polebridge and the North Fork Hostel have survived fires, and I’m sure you will get through this pandemic safely.
