Spring Bike Riding

Going-To-The-Sun road is still only open to Lake McDonald Lodge, the Hiker/Biker closure is at Logan Pass. Camas Road is open for car traffic as well as the Kintla Lake Road from the Polebridge Entrance to the end of Big Prairie. Ranger word is that the Bowman Road will not open until May 22nd and the Kintla Road above Big Prairie is not scheduled to open until June 8th. So, the pavement makes some good road riding with little traffic this time of the year and then, there is always Bowman Lake!

Kintla Lake and Brown Pass

This post features a photo of the head of Bowman Lake. The Columbines are seen on the way to Brown Pass as well as the tree hit by a good sized rock. Plenty of shots of the waterfalls coming out of Hole-in-the-wall plus the snow covered hanging valley it comes from. Also, on a recent bike ride to Kintla Lake, which was beautifully calm for a change I took some photos of sticky geraniums, balsam root, paint brush, lupines and the north fork river.

Deer leg on Bowman Lake

It was one of those days, way out of reach of the camera’s eye but well within reach of the binocular: I spent over an hour watching the instigators of this poor little deer’s demise; I watched the four where they were way down the middle of the frozen lake, napping and dozing, rolling in the snow and wrestling with each other, scratching and stretching, napping some more and another stretch for good measures.
